Southside Elite arrived in Maloney unbeaten but Caledonia Clippers made sure they did not leave that way.

Led by Ahkeel “Smally” Boyd and Adrian Joseph, Clippers delivered an emphatic 82–58 victory at the Maloney Indoor Complex on Sunday night, handing Southside their first defeat of the EIG Elite Basketball League season.

With roughly 400 spectators in attendance for the opening of Round Two, the double-header also brought success for NCA Warriors, who defeated Morvant Oilbirds 82–74 in the first game.

The headline result, however, belonged to Clippers.

Clippers take command

The meeting carried an added hometown storyline, with twin brothers Ahkeel and Ahkeem Boyd representing opposing sides in Maloney. On this occasion, it was Smally and his Clippers teammates who earned the bragging rights.

Boyd finished with 27 points, while Joseph supplied 23, combining for 50 of Clippers’ 82 points. Jason Best added 10 to give Caledonia another scoring contribution on a night when Southside struggled to keep pace.

Clippers established their advantage early, taking the opening quarter 26–16. They then tightened their grip in the second, outscoring Southside 24–11 to enter halftime with a commanding 50–27 lead.

That first-half deficit left the previously unbeaten side facing a substantial recovery job.

Southside offered a response after the break, winning the third quarter 20–17. But Clippers still carried a 20-point cushion into the final period, then closed out the contest by taking the fourth 15–11.

Jason Friday led Southside with 18 points, while Ahkeem Boyd and Tyrik Singh scored 12 apiece. Their contributions were not enough to prevent a 24-point defeat, a sharp reversal just two nights after Southside had completed Round One unbeaten.

For Clippers, the result provided an emphatic answer to their narrow 93–91 loss to Southside in the first round. It also brought both teams to five wins and one defeat, adding fresh interest to the contest at the top of the league.

Warriors find a winning start

Earlier, NCA Warriors opened their second-round campaign with an important eight-point victory over Morvant Oilbirds.

Josiah John-Andrew led NCA with 17 points, supported by Che Peniston-Miller’s 14. Raanan Howard and Jameer Young contributed 11 each, while Jervais Edwards-Caracciolo added 10 as five Warriors reached double figures.

That spread of scoring gave NCA contributions from across the lineup and helped them secure their second win of the season. Both victories have come against Oilbirds, who remain in search of their first success.

Obel Guerra led Morvant’s resistance with 27 points, but Oilbirds endured another disappointment after Friday’s one-point loss to TTPS. A new round has begun, but the challenge remains the same: finding the performance that turns their efforts into a first victory.

Sunday’s action gave the Maloney crowd two significant results to mark the start of Round Two. NCA found a winning start, Clippers drew level with Southside on wins and losses, and the league’s last unbeaten record fell.

The chase at the top is firmly on.
